About David

David McEnulty is a Park City native who has returned home to the mountains after two decades of exploring the world, himself, and the human experience—with many adventures and misadventures along the way. He spent the last 11 years learning and working in San Francisco’s premier physical therapy clinics, yoga studios, gyms, and, most recently, psychological wellness institutes, developing a diverse but integrated set of skills that have crystallized into a unique and profoundly effective style of somatic therapy. David has witnessed—in his own varied practices and in his work with hundreds of clients—the inextricability of mind and body wellbeing, how positive mental patterns lead to healthier physical habits (and vice versa), and how it is often most effective to train all aspects simultaneously with a unified approach. This witnessing created an enduring curiosity, which became his passion and then his specialty.

After thousands of hours spent teaching yoga of many kinds, training individual clients in gyms for strength and fitness, and interning in a physical therapy practice, David became fascinated with the frequency and ways in which psychological facets would crop up when sweat would begin to flow or certain areas of the body would begin to open up or release. This fascination led him to pursue a Masters in Somatic Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, a three year intensive program focusing on the psycho/physiotherapeutic applications of embodiment techniques. Completed in the spring of 2019, David has since dovetailed somatic psychology with his wide-ranging experience in fitness and wellness coaching, offering sessions to individual clients that are specifically tailored to their—your—needs and goals. Now he’s excited to bring this full spectrum practice to Park City, a place he loves as deeply as his work.

When not training, studying, or practicing, David spends as much time as possible enjoying the many wonders the mountains have to offer with his partner Kati and dog Reka, and their newest addition: little Vera. He also loves to create music, write novels (or attempt to, at least), and unabashedly engage in the supremely nerdy, such as playing board games of all kinds, the card game Magic the Gathering, or the alpha and omega of nerdom: Dungeons & Dragons.

Offerings

PRIVATE YOGA SESSIONS

David offers both private and corporate yoga sessions for individuals or groups. These sessions can be taught at your office, your home, one of the several studios David uses for his privates, or his home studio, and either on a one-time or ongoing basis. The smaller the size of class—down to one-on-one—the more he will be able to focus on the unique aspects of your practice and physiology. The private sessions can range from therapeutic to restorative to high-intensity vinyasa flow, and can be either interactive and instructional or more like a traditional yoga class. Contact David for personalized, group, or corporate sessions.

PERSONAL TRAINING

David is a certified personal trainer (National Academy of Sports Medicine™) with over 10,000 hours of one-on-one and small group sessions. Having spent equal time in the gym and on the mat, he believes that strength and mobility training is not mutually exclusive with flexibility and grace. He specializes in hybridizing yoga and resistance training (using either external weights or your own body weight) and is proficient in TRX, battle ropes, kettlebells, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT). David now trains exclusively at Resilience, an amazing playground of a gym sporting every toy and advanced piece of equipment imaginable in a fun, clean, professional, and beautiful environment.

After spending thousands hours observing and assisting in the physical therapy clinic and workshops of celebrated physical therapist and yoga instructor, Harvey Deutch, David also combines physical therapy techniques and bodywork into his training and has a keen eye for both injury prevention and the safest way to heal injuries while still attaining goals such as weight loss or mass building. He has worked with amputees, spinal injuries, osteoarthritis, and clients with a host of other limitations. After seeing amazing results despite the odds, he truly believes that positive change is always possible. Contact David here for availability and pricing.

Virtual training and yoga

During the COVID-19 restrictions, David is offering discounted virtual sessions through Zoom or FaceTime for training, yoga, or a combination of both, using whatever equipment you have available in your space—even just your bodyweight will do. Testimonials

Jane, 30

In May, I saw some pictures of myself from a friend's wedding. They were awful. I had to confront that I was beginning to have my family's signature dumpling shape. It was time to get serious about my health and fitness, I wanted to turn 30 feeling fantastic about my body. I started training with David McEnulty at Body Mechanix SOMA. I told him that I wanted to lose 20lbs by my birthday, 3 months away, and that in 2 months I was also moving out of the country. He let me know that to see fast progress I should workout 3 days a week minimum and do some sort of food tracking so we could discuss my diet. He helped me go from complete couch potato to confident and strong enough to workout on my own in just a few months. Then, he designed a program so that when I moved to Berlin I could keep up the progress. Since moving I've increased my deadlift from 100lb to 150lbs - I can lift more than my own weight now! I've lost 25lbs and three pants sizes, and I'm not done yet! My new goals are to deadlift over 200lbs, and weigh what I did in high school.

David has helped me manage my overall health and fitness goals for over a year, including physical therapy exercises following my knee surgery. Since working with David, people assume I’m a decade younger.  He is knowledgeable, professional and enormously committed to his clients as individuals —  with his highly personalized approach to health, fitness and overall well being.

Andrew, 43

I've always been fairly active and healthy, but as I moved into my early 40's I found it harder to find the motivation and was stuck in the same old workout routine. My time at the gym did not feel effective and it showed. I'd never really used a personal trainer so was a bit unsure about how helpful it would be.

A couple friends had trained with David and had great things to say about him. David has a broad knowledge of the body and how to workout smart and safely. Working with David helped give me a plan and got me back in gear. I really appreciated his advice on how to maximize workouts and his flexibility in how to focus my workouts.  We were able to constantly evaluate my progress and goals and make changes to track to my goals.  With David I was able to drop my overall body fat 6-8%, lose weight, and build muscle; he also helped craft a plan that I am able use on my own to stay on track and keep progressing what we started.

Joina, 38

I've been working with David for only 2 months now and can already see my body transforming and my strength improving.  David’s coaching is very versatile based on what the client can and should be focusing on, instead of being like those bootcamp/biggest loser type of coaches that really only have one mode and can be discouraging. He is very knowledgeable and really makes sure that I have proper form 100% of the time.

David is an incredible personal trainer and body movement coach. The Best!!!! He always observes what I am doing and comments in a positive and encouraging way.  I am in my 70s but do not need to explain a lot to him.  He observes how I could improve, caters to my needs and gives me exercises that challenge but do not overwhelm me. David pointed out problems that I did not know I had, such as how I walked and he helped me correct my posture and stride. Because of him, I move better, am stronger, feel younger and have a greater knowledge of how my body moves!
